About the organization

A Bambowtie is a hand-carved bamboo bow tie. Bambowtie products are handmade by community members from Gawad Kalinga located in Victoria, Tarlac.
The organization was founded by Bryan Benitez-McClelland a Filipino-American social entrepreneur. Bryan also founded Bambike, a social enterprise making bamboo bicycles. The bambowtie are actually made of upcycled materials from the bambike building process. The fabric is sourced from local indigenous tribes.

What makes it a social enterprise?

Part of the profits are reinvested into the Gawad Kalinga community where the bambowtie are made. Funds are focused on education programs such as building a playground, sponsoring a teacher's salary, contributing to a scholarship fund for the children and a weekly feeding program.
The production of bambowtie also helps to provide sustainable employment opportunity to builders of the Gawad Kalaing community.
