About the organization
Kawil Tours is a Culion-based social enterprise that empowers the local communities of the Culion island. Once the world's largest leper colony, Culion Island has undergone a transformation but the place and its people continue to face the stigmas associated with its dark history. To improve its image and boost the local economy, Kawil Tours works hand in hand with the islanders to offer unique tours, excursions, and accommodations.

What makes it a social enterprise?
Kawil Tours is an advocate of responsible travel in the Philippines. For us, every tour operation, every step of visitors in their destinations, should be a venue to promote the general welfare of the community particularly in the tourism sector. Your boat ride benefits the boatmen and his family. Your meals benefit the families who humbly and open-heartedly prepared them. We pay our tour guides and other service providers the just amount. Your stay in Hotel Maya benefits the students of the Loyola College of Culion, a financially challenged Jesuit school. We help spread the sunshine. As a responsible travel advocate, we adhere to Department of Tourism’s statement that ‘the tourism industry should belong to the people and the community’.
They work hand in hand with the islanders to boost the local economy. The locals serve as tour guides while Kawil Tours and its partners handle advertisements and provide initial funding.
