About the organization
Lumago means to blossom in Tagalog. It is a Fair Trade company that makes upcycled jewelry. They are known for their line of jewelry made using paper beads, which is recycled magazine paper. All the material is coming out of the local Dumaguete City dumpsite, adjacent to the Scandinavian Village housing project. They have expended out of paper breads and also use discarded pieces of bamboo, pull tabs from cans, fabric from recycled clothing and leather from old leather bags.

What makes it a social enterprise?
The Lumago Ladies Co-operative launched alongside Lumago Designs and hold shares in the social enterprise. They are the designers and crafters of all Lumago Designs products. Profits from the for-profit enterprise are redistributed back to the designers and crafters and also re-invested in healthcare, education, entrepreneurial ventures and emergency funds. The company also helps the residents of the Scandinavian Village community that make a living out of going through the Dumaguete City dumpsite by buying all their needed upcycled material from them at a fair price.
