About the organization

The Make Peace Bakery is a social enterprise located at the Gaward Kalinga Enchanted Farm that empowers the disadvantaged youth through learning baking and business skills.

The social enterprise was founded by Anj Mariano-Calungcaguin and Yok Calungcaguin. Previously caterers in Manila, they decided to move to the GK Enchanted Farm after attending and being inspired by the GK Social Business Summit in 2016. The youth they hire and train are either out of school youths or part of the School for Experimental and Entrepreneurial Development [SEED] program.

What makes it a social enterprise?

The Make Peace Bakery's mission and vision is to teach marginalized youth that comes from humble background about baking, bakery operations and business.

The Make Peace Bakery objective is to replicate their model in other Gawad Kalinga communities. Those other branches of Make Peace Bakery would then be managed and operated by the youth they have been training, which would allow them to become social entrepreneurs of their own. This isn't about having them as employee and only giving them an income, this is about ensuring they become the business partners and social entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
