Habi Batangan

About the organization

Habi Batangan is a social enterprise seeking to enable sustainable change to underprivileged communities in rural Batangas by showcasing the unique artistry of traditional Habi weaving, skillfully crafted by the talented Nanay (Mother) Weavers of Ibaan, Batangas.

Habi weaving is a centuries-old technique of weaving cloth using only the hands and a rudimentary wooden machine, practiced mainly by women. Unfortunately, due to the industrialization of labor, this tradition has all but ceased to exist. They hope to revitalize the handweaving industry in Ibaan by enabling more local artisans through training, facility development, social programs, and providing regular and sustainable income to our Nanay Weavers and their families.
